Last week on Thursday two Nano girls came to show us some cool chemistry experiments. Their names were, “Debbiesaurus” and “Tornado Tammy”.

They taught us about the different chemicals and what will happen if you mix them together.

Experiment no.1 – Cloth experiment

This experiment was with a cloth and a type of chemical liquid that doesn’t burn. First Debbiesaurus dipped the cloth into the chemical which causes the cloth to not burn when she turned the lighter on the cloth wasn’t burning only the chemical had fire spreading on it.

Experiment no.2 – Pancake experiment

For this experiment Tornado Tammy would explain that making pancakes is an experiment. The reason is because almost everything in the world is a chemical or contains chemicals! We even contain a chemical called “hydrochloric acid” inside our stomach that helps us digest our food. Anyways, two volunteers went onto the stage and helped Debbiesaurus make the pancakes. Pancakes include the chemical Milk and eggs, which contain a type of protein and the milk contains a natural sugar. When the pancake was done they squirted lemon juice on the top which is an acid.

Experiment no.3 – Testing the acidity of different acids ( Lemon juice & Baking soda )

This experiment was to test the acidity of the acids or products we are using. First they poured an acid\pH indicator in 3 jars, the indicator is purple and it will change to tell the acidity. Debbiesaurus poured lemon juice in one jar and baking soda in the other. The baking soda one turned blue and the lemon juice one turned red. Did you know that you can change the colour back to purple by adding some special chemical to wipe out the acid.

Experiment no.4 – Fireworks experiment

This experiment was testing what creates the colour of fireworks. Debbiesaurus got a flamethrower and Tornado Tammy was spraying flammable, flammable means something that can catch fire chemicals inside of the flamethrower.  That created different colors.

My favourite one was the firework one because of the colors.

After that we had to go back to class. Bye viewers!!
